Beat the heat with one of these vibrant and refreshing summer mocktails. From the classic Aperol spritz to spicy margaritas, minty mojitos, and watermelon slushies, there’s something for everyone.

What Are Mocktails?
Mocktails are basically “mock” cocktails and they taste just like real cocktails but without the alcohol. Honestly they’re pretty convincing too, especially when you add in zero proof spirits. I trick guests all the time with my non alcoholic concoctions.
Do They Taste Like Cocktails?
This depends! If you use zero proof non alcoholic (NA) spirits, then YES! Some brands of NA spirits are better than others but that is the case with alcoholic spirits too. Most NA spirits are 0.0% to 0.5% ABV (meaning no alcohol content) but always check the bottles before you buy.
And don’t fret! You can still make really yummy summer mocktails without non alcoholic spirits. To get the similar sensation alcohol gives, I use carbonated beverages like tonic water, club soda, carbonated sodas, or mineral water in it’s place. They definitely give a warm tummy tingling feeling and it they are more readily available.
Can Kids Drink Mocktails?
These summer mocktails are the perfect option for anyone who’s not drinking, kids included. So, whether you’re looking for something fun to make with the kids on spring break, pregnant, sober curious, trying to cut calories, or you just don’t want a hangover tomorrow, they are a great option.
A quick note, some of the recipes are made with non alcoholic spirits that are 0.0% to 0.5% alcohol by volume. I recommend using your best judgement as to whether or not your child can consume them. I personally would swap out the spirits for club soda or more juice.

How To Make A Custom Summer Mocktail
- JUICE: 100% juice is best in mocktails because they tend to be star of the show. Feel free to use fruit and vegetable juices.
- BUBBLES: I recommend club soda, but tonic water, mineral water, sparkling water, flavored carbonated waters, or Kombucha work great. Even sodas like lemon lime, ginger ale or ginger beer can be a great option.
- SWEETENER: I always go for simple syrups because it is a great way to add sweetness and flavor. Other liquid sweeteners like agave, honey, maple syrup are good options too. My favorite summer sweeteners are this Jalapeno Syrup, Grenadine, Strawberry Syrup, Vanilla Syrup and of course the OG Simple Syrup.
- OPTIONAL ZERO PROOF NON ALCOHOLIC SPIRITS: You can find everything from alcohol free tequila to beer to champagne and everything in between (browse my favorites here). These will make your mocktails taste even closer to their alcoholic counterpart.
- OPTIONAL NA BITTERS: A few dashes of bitters give complexity to any mocktail. My favorites for summer are Lavender Bitters, Orange Bitters, and New Orleans Bitters. If you use code ENTIRELY10, you can get 10% off your All The Bitter purchase (not sponsored).
- OPTIONAL FRESH HERBS, FRUITS, AND VEGETABLES: Many summer mocktails have the addition of herbs, fruits, and vegetables. They are typically muddled with simple syrup to make the base.
- Herbs: mint, basil, lavender, lemongrass, and rose.
- Fruits: mango, berries, watermelon, and coconut.
- Vegetables: cucumbers, jalapenos, or olives.
- OPTIONAL FUN GARNISHES: These are a great way to elevate your mocktails visually. I like using rimming sugar and salts for a decorated glass. Adding fresh citrus peel or wedges, a maraschino cherry, and even mint leaves can be a fun addition. I also love the look of fun straws and mini umbrellas in the summer time.
Bar Equipment Made For Summer Mocktails
There’s nothing better than stocking your home bar for summer. Here are a few of the essentials you will need for making fun and aesthetic mocktails.
- Drinkware! This is the best part of stocking a home bar (in my opinion). Lately I have been loving these ribbed glasses. But I also love Mexican blown glass, geometric wine glasses, and hobnail lidded cups.
- Cocktail shaker with long stirrers and jiggers.
- Blender or food processor for frozen slushie type drinks.
- Hand held citrus juicer
- Muddler for smashing together herbs, fruits, and vegetables.
- Cocktail pins for holding garnishes in place.
