A Mocktail That Will Make You Feel Good!

I make a lot of mocktails here, but this Orange Coconut Water Mocktail is a top pick for me. I have an autoimmune disease which often leaves me feeling sluggish around 3 to 4 pm. Normally I would grab a cold brew coffee until I learned it was doing me more harm than good.

Now I stir up this electrolyte and vitamin packed mocktail. It is made with 100% pure orange juice and coconut water, has no added sugars, is low in calories, and uses alcohol free bitters which are great for digestive health.

Sounds amazing right?! You’ll also love how it…

  • Takes 5 minutes to make, and there is no need for fancy equipment or ingredients.
  • Is refreshing and nourishing at the same time. I don’t like to use the word healthy because it’s a relative term, but this mocktail is way better for you than the sugary sodas or “diet” drinks with harmful chemicals.
  • The flavor is out of this world! It’s a light balance of citrusy orange, light coconut, and depth from the orange bitters.

Orange Coconut Water Mocktail Ingredients

This recipe is 4 super simple ingredients, 5 if you include the mint garnish. Keep reading for a few notes and potential substitutions.

  • Orange Juice: It’s got to be freshly squeezed and Cara Cara oranges, they have the best flavor. You’ll only need half an orange, so you can eat the other half, make another for your friend or even yourself.
  • Coconut Water: 100% pure, organic coconut water like Vita Coco is best. Be careful of what you buy, a lot of sneaky brands have added sugar and aren’t even real coconut water.
  • Orange Bitters: For a true mocktail you will want use alcohol free orange bitters from All The Bitter. This post is not sponsored but I can give you 10% off, just use code ENTIRELY10 on their website.
  • Club Soda: This lifts and amplifies the flavors… DO NOT, I repeat, do not leave this out. You can use tonic water for the same effect.
  • Optional Garnish: I used mint leaves and orange wedges. The mint adds a nice aroma and who doesn’t like a fresh slice of orange with their drink.

Equipment Needed

  • Glassware: Any type of glass works for this mocktail. I used geometric rocks glasses because they are my favorite.
  • Juicer: You’re going to need a big one to juice oranges. I use this one with a handle and pour spout. You may also need a fine mesh strainer to remove any pulp.
  • Spoon/ Stirrer: I love these long handled stirrers but you can use whatever.
Ingredients. Coconut water, freshly squeezed orange juice, alcohol free orange bitters, and club soda.

How to Make An Orange Coconut Water Mocktail

Here’s a quick summary of the instructions. The recipe card below will have complete details.

1. TO A GLASS ADD ice, freshly squeezed orange juice, coconut water, and a dash of alcohol free orange bitters. Stir together until the bitters are combined.

2. TOP IT OFF with club soda and garnish with mint leaves and an orange slice.

3 Must Read Mixology Tips

BUBBLES ARE A MUST! Club soda may seem like an optional ingredient, but it is essential. This one ingredient elevates flavors and takes our mocktail from 0 to 100 real quick… plus it’s zero calories. If you try this mocktail without the club soda and with, you will see what I mean.

THIS IS A PULP-FREE ZONE. When you are squeezing your own oranges it is inevitable to get a little pulp in your juice. You do not want this in your mocktail, it will make the texture weird and sometimes pulp can make the juice bitter from the orange pith. Easily remove pulp using a fine mesh sieve like this one.

MINT ISN’T JUST A GARNISH. Most people think mint leaves are purely decorative but they can add a lot of aromatics to a mocktail. I like to gently clap them between my palms and directly over the mocktail before drinking (this releases the oils and fragrance from the mint).

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)

What are bitters?

Bitters are made to enhance flavors. They are a concentrated liquid made by infusing spices, roots, citrus, herbs, and botanicals in alcohol. The bitters I use in my recipes use 100% alcohol free but still add the same depth and complexity to drinks.

Do I have to use the orange bitters in this Orange Coconut Water Mocktail?

No, but they do make it taste even better. I know alcohol free bitters are not always easy to come by, so if you are pressed for time or just don’t have the extra cash, you can omit them. There isn’t a good substitute for them unfortunately.
