This Halloween Snack Mix is a wickedly delicious blend of sweet and salty! It’s crunchy popcorn, pretzels, and cereal covered in a gooey green marshmallow slime and festive candy.

It’s perfect for spooky movie nights, Trick or Treating, or gifting to friends and neighbors in October.

Everyone (kids and adults) loves this recipe because it’s coated in a gooey green slime made from marshmallows! Most snack mixes call for white chocolate but I prefer slime in this one. It is not as sweet and adds to the gruesomeness of Halloween.

On top of that, it’s super easy. With just a handful of ingredients and a few simple steps, you can whip up a batch in about 15 minutes. Also want to mention, it’s a salty-sweet snack despite all the candy you see. The pretzels, salted popcorn and peanuts really balance out this snack mix.

Halloween Snack Mix Ingredients

This snack mix is 9 ingredients filled with textures and flavor. Keep reading for important notes and potential substitutions.

  • Plain Popcorn: I buy bagged, pre-popped popcorn because it’s just easy. You can also use microwavable, air popped, stove-top popped. Don’t worry if it’s lightly salted but definitely don’t use buttered popcorn.
  • Mini Pretzels: These add crunch and a salty note. I recommend using twists but mini rods work as well.
  • Rice Cereal Squares: This is also for crunch. You can use corn cereal squares, but the flavor will be more savory than rice cereal squares.
  • Mini Marshmallows: They are what gives this popcorn a gooey slime factor. Mini marshmallows melt down best, but if all you have is large marshmallows you can cut them into fours before melting.
  • Unsalted Butter: It’s used to help the marshmallows melt down evenly. I do not recommend salted butter, it just makes the popcorn too salty once it’s done.
  • Green Food Coloring: To give our marshmallow the slime color. If you do not have green, you can use a little blue and yellow instead.
  • Toppings: I use Halloween milk chocolate M&M’s, candy corn, and salted peanuts.
Ingredients Needed. Plain popcorn, mini pretzels, rice cereal squares, unsalted butter, mini marshmallows, green food coloring, Halloween M&M's, candy corn, and salted peanuts.

How to Make Halloween Snack Mix

Here’s a quick summary of the steps. The recipe card further down will have complete details and instructions.

1. Make the green marshmallow slime. In a saucepan, melt the unsalted butter. Once melted, add the mini marshmallows and green food coloring. Continue stirring until they’re melted down and the green is distributed.

2. Combine the Halloween Snack Mix. Combine the plain popcorn, mini pretzels, rice cereal squares, and green marshmallow slime. Pour it onto a parchment lined baking sheet and spread out into an even layer. Immediately top with the Halloween M&M’s, candy corn, and salted peanuts. Let it cool before eating.

Package It Up for Trick or Treating

This Halloween Snack Mix is perfect for Trick or Treating, kid’s school parties, and giving to friends or neighbors.

I like to place a cup or two into treat boxes or cellophane baggies and tie it off with a festive ribbon. You can also put it into canisters (I use these jars with ghost faces on them) and add a bow on top.

Please keep in mind it does contain allergens like gluten, nuts, and dairy so it may not be suitable for all people. Letting them know is the best way to approach it (especially for Trick or Treating).
